Semester 1

This course is about the concept of disaster risk management that covers the organization and administration of resources and responsibilities for dealing with all prevention aspects of emergencies, in particular preparedness, response, and recovery in order to lessen the impact of disasters. Disaster risk management is the application of disaster risk reduction policies and strategies, to prevent new disaster risks, reduce existing disaster risks and manage residual risks, contributing to the strengthening of resilience and reduction of losses. This course will introduce students to the disaster management cycle and its relationship to disaster management and disaster risk management in the context of Malaysia. This will be followed by a discussion on international agreements that have elements of disaster risk management. The students will also be exposed to various international and national institutions associated with disaster relief, science, and youth groups.

This course aims to provide exposure and knowledge to students about the fundamentals of economics leading to sustainable development through economic sustainability. In this course, students will be explained the introduction of the basic theory and philosophy of sustainability and economics as well as economic sustainability as a whole. The sustainability challenges and circular economy could introduce to give the view of the current issues facing in the economically insight. The method of natural resources valuation to be clarified so that economic resources can be used optimally to achieve maximum profit without wasting resources. An economic approach in interpreting the environment and evaluating policy solutions through a focus on market failures and external effects, common and economic solutions to preserve the environment. The case studies approaches of economic and environmental problems and the relationship between the economy and the environment is applied through the assignment activity to strengthen knowledge and understanding in determining the direction of the policy and development of economic sustainability among the community and the country.

The course provides students with knowledge, skills and experience on the concepts of law and ethics for sustainability towards sustainable development. It covers discussion on the principles, sources and classifications of law, as well as the application of the law in order to achieve sustainable development. Furthermore, it also discusses on the concept and principles of ethics as well as ethical approaches towards sustainable development.
